The Rising Sun Film Society's
The Rising Sun Film Society is based in Moree, New South Wales
and has been in operation for over twenty five years.
We are basically just a group of people who enjoy watching recent release non-mainstream movies from all over the world, which our committee chooses and schedules at the beginning each year.
The Film Society was started in the days before SBS was available in country areas and Moree still had an operating cinema, as a way of being able to see some of the arthouse and foreign language movies that city people enjoyed. After the town's wonderful cinema sadly closed we had a few years of making do with hired equipment and less than great screens until circumstances (and a flood) led us to start using the Masonic Centre, who have kindly allowed us to permanently install our own screen in the building and we have also managed to purchase our own portable projection and sound equipment.
We screen our films nine times a year, from March to November, usually on the third Sunday of the month, in Moree's Masonic Centre and everyone is welcome to join us for both the movie and afterwards, a light supper supplied by our committee. Our yearly memberships are $90 but if you are from out of town or only wish to see a few of our films in a year you may come along and watch for the bargain price of $15 per film.
Our yearly programmes and monthly flyers are kindly printed by
